Black Stars to shine in the quarter-finals

Black Stars to shine in the quarter-finals

Ghana managed to get the maximum three points that got them through to the next round.

Burkina Faso needed at least a draw to gain them one point and qualify, but they had to face a more attacking side this time. Their well-organised defense was not enough this time, as it was in the case of their goalless draw with Cote d’Ivoire. Even though Ghana was playing handicapped after many injuries of top players at the eve of the match, they scored a single goal in the 30th minute that the Burkinabes did not manage to equalise.

In a Group B that was disrupted on the first day by Togo’s departure and one defeat in their first match with Cote d’Ivoire, the Black Stars played last night without their biggest star Michael Essien. The midfielder suffered a knee-injury during training on the eve of the match and is ruled out of the tournament.

So the next round might prove very difficult for Ghana. Still, they have a full house of young enthusiastic players who can run faster and use their energy against any opponent. Among them is also Andre Ayew, the son of Ghana’s legend, Abedi Pele. He was the one who scored last night’s goal with a strong header. Ghana will have its next game on Sunday in Luanda against the Angolan hosts. Until this point, Angola and Algeria have qualified from Group A, Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana from Group B and Egypt from Group C. There is one more ticket to the quarter-finals for Group C, while Group D teams will have to wait until Thursday for their last match of this round.
