Africa Cup of Nations full of Surprises… What comes next?

What if Algeria managed to qualify for the World Cup in South Africa, the Malawian players scored three goals to the Algerian team leaving them on the bottom.

Having beaten the African champions -Egypt- in November, the Desert Foxes were even considered until last night as potential winners of the Cup of Nations, but their tails were unexpectedly burnt by The Flames. The biggest win for Malawi ever, placed them on top of group A ahead of Angola and Mali. But the surprises did not stop there. Not even Didier Drogba managed to score a goal in the match against Burkina Faso. Cote d’ Ivoire players with many chances on their feet, tripped on Burkina Faso’s defense and the game finished 0-0.

With group B now having just three rivals, after the disqualification of Togo, the two teams will have to give their best game against Ghana. The Togolese players are back home after the tragedy in Cabinda on Friday. After an official three-day mourning for their dead, they will have to recover from the shock and return to their duties. Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini, said he feels sorry for what happened and will allow his Togolese player, Emmanuel Adebayor, to start playing again whenever he feels ready.

The upcoming match between Egypt and Nigeria has raised great expectations for an exciting spectacle. The Pharaoh champions will try to win a third cup in a row. But the Super Eagles of Nigeria, who flew their way to the World Cup, feel more confident after the Pharaoh were eliminated by Algeria for the FIFA event. In addition, Egypt will have to play without some of its greater stars like Aboutreika, Amr Zaki and Mido. The other two teams competing in Group C, Benin and Mozambique, are aware of the fact that they don’t have many chances against the African football stars. The two outsiders in their match today will struggle to get three points before facing one of the giants.
