Musical stars leave egos at home and sing together for Haiti
Superstars of the musical world have come together in Los Angeles to record a song to raise money for the Haiti Earthquake appeal.
Barbara Steisand, Kanye West, Carlos Santana and Celine Dion were amongst the singers who recorded “We are the world”, a single first made 20 years ago to raise awareness for the famine in Africa. Over 70 singers took part with all ages and musical tastes being represented. The original performers of the song were not asked to attend but co-writer Lionel Ritchie was there to oversee the musical performance.
Classical crossover tenor Josh Groban described the recording as “inspired chaos”. With so many divas and musical genii, chaos seems plausible. But Groban says “everybody left their egos at the door”, a reference to a sign hung in the studio when the single was recorded first time around.
The celebrities were clearly in awe of each other. Lil’ Wayne even admitted that his mother had asked him to take a photo of Gladys Knight.
The song, will be finished today and will premiere during coverage of the Vancouver Winter Olympics on February 12.
