Michelle Obama has revealed that she had to put her daughters on a diet, as she prepares to launch a campaign to tackle childhood obesity.

Michelle admitted that although she thought her children were "perfect", the family paediatrician had warned her that "something was out of balance" with Sasha, 8, and Malia, 10. The First Lady took action immediately and told her girls to limit burgers and to eat more fruit. She also asked her girls to cut down the amount of television they watched during the week. Although the changes were small, the results were significant, said Michelle.

Michelle Obama made her remarks at a YMCA in Virginia, where she spoke about childhood obesity along with US medical professionals. Obesity is a serious problem in the USA where two thirds of adults and one in three children are obese, according to experts.
