Happy Soul festival
If you are into new great films, the arts and live music from Africa, US
and Asia, the Happy Soul Festival is an event for you. This year will be
the fourth edition of the festival. It started on April 20th and continues
until April 30th.
The line-up consists of films produced by local youth in
the UK as well as Indian and US films featured on the program.
The
Happy Soul Festival started in 2007 with a pilot project aimed at
Asian communities, core-funded by South West London and St George's NHS
Mental Health Trust. Its aim was to raise awareness of mental health issues
within Asian communities in a more culturally acceptable way, using film,
music and performance.
Today, live music, films, documentaries and poetry
readings will brighten up the evenings. Events involving many different
communities will be taking place, including an audience with acclaimed US
writer, Alice Walker. Also Chris Rock's eye-opening documentary 'Good Hair'
will be aired on April 28th.
These events are taking place across the
London Boroughs of Merton, Wandsworth, Kingston, Sutton, Richmond and
Lambeth. The best bit is they are all FREE!
