Japan Prime Minister Taro dissolves Parliament

The Prime Minister Taro Aso dissolved Japan’s parliament, clearing the way for an August 30 election that polls indicate will hand power to the opposition Democratic Party of Japan for the first time.

Mr Aso apologised to his ruling party for the series of defeats the Liberal Democratic Party suffered in local elections.

The country is in a deep recession. For a big majority of the japanese population, Prime Minister Taro Aso became very unpopular. The world’s second largest economy has been rocked by the global recession. Japan, once revered as a global economic titan, has been unable to face the credit crunch.
